So, I wake up. I don't want to wake up. I want to sleep. More. Lots more. But, I wake up. My body says, "sleep, sleep, in this deep seductive voice from an old B vampire movie." My mind refuses.

Ok, it is 6AM, what am I going to do at 6AM?

I decide to go for a walk.

I start walking down my block and then I see it. My dear gentle pair of robins. They have been hanging around the house for months now. I have found 2 or 3 of three (empty) eggs. I give them to the neighbor's little girls. The girls are utterly fascinated by all things and the pretty light blue eggs were no exception.

So, what were my sweet innocent robins doing in the early AM, before the humans take over the world with their aggressive competitive doings?

My robins were attacking a squirrel!

The U.S. Air Force would have been proud. These two little dive bombers were coming in for sortee after sortee, harassing poor little Rocky with vigor.

And Rocky was not amused. He was ducking for cover...first under a car, then out from the car and back into the fray, then across the street and even under the bushes of the house that holds "Husky Dog" - no friend to the squirrel kingdom.

It was quite a scene with the frantic and confused human clapping his hands to scare off the robins? Robins?!? Such an awkward and completely tragic lesson in humility and embarrassment. The worst part being the realization (?) that the robins may have
been in the right. Squirrels do try to steal their eggs, right? I just went and did a Google search on "squirrel theft" - fully 306,000 hits!!!

So, there I was, not only embarrassing the last living shred of dignity that may exist for myself, but defending a thief, a rogue, from being
righteously punished by Mother Nature's hand.

Well, the living dream was certainly more refreshing than the cold daily mind stew that had been going on in my brain before consciousness. Hmmmmm, consciousness....I should try that more often.
