Re: Silly Fun
Mon, March 26, 2007 - 5:10 AMThere is a shop right around the corner from my house called Uncle Sam's Chocolates. They make their own products, for the most part, and all of them are fantastic. We just went there two days ago and dropped about $25 on a big variety of stuff from their bulk case, which will probably last us a week or so.
They make what they call a Wicked Dark Chocolate Truffle; I forget what the cacao percentage is, but it's pretty high for a truffle (though maybe not so high if it were a chocolate bar). They're really good. -

Ethel Anyone?
Anyone need an Ethel Merman fix?
www.youtube.com/watch
I find that she really hits the spot sometimes. Not sure what spot it is, but it is a pretty funny one....
So, I was dating this woman named Karen. She ran a local theater company. She was quite the hoot. She told me that in high school she
was after this guy for 3 years straight. Finally, he asked her out,
they were in her car and the moment happened! He kissed her!
So Karen, stops, pushes him away and breaks into song, doing a show tune.
When she said that I thought of Ethel Merman...doing that in the middle of a big date in high school, the look of horror in the boyfriend's face, the windows shattering, small animals running for cover, etc., etc. etc... -

I used to do an impersonation of Ethel singing "There's No Business..." in my school days. Thanks Jon, that brought back some nostalgic memories for me.
My musical tastes have radically broadened since then....so outstretched, in fact, as to include these artsy 'dadaistic' types from the Bay area called "Negativeland" who's rendition of the song that Ethel made famous is now presented for the sake of 'silly fun'...

Sat, May 12, 2007 - 11:04 PMThere's a place at that mall at Powell St BART station called Cocoa Bella... They carry chocolates from a few great chocolatiers around the world. One of my favorites is a guy named Christopher Elbow, who I got turned on to living in Kansas City. He does awesome chocolates, most notably (for me) his rosemary caramels! They are beautiful to look at (multicolored) with great taste and texture. So are his Fleur du Sel salt caramels. I sent Elbow chocolates to both my mom and stepmom for Mother's Day, and I was so glad to be able to find them in SF! -

Cats
Tue, April 29, 2008 - 8:00 AMDon't kiss your cat.
This is the realization that I have come to.
And it is not because of the germs or society's impression of the act, your friends having wafting
thoughts of Appalachia and Monty Python sketches in their brains...no.
It is because of the rejection.
So, I was over my mother's house and I kissed the cat.
This was a big mistake.
The cat was so clearly and utterly disgusted by the experience. Just completely.
The rejection!!
It was like the time I was at a club and started hitting on this fashion model. She looked me dead in the eye, went, "Eeeewwww," and walked away.
But the cat's rejection stung much worse, because he had me going that I was, in fact, his pal. O Brutus! O Betrayal!
Apparently, I am just the "liverwurst serf."
"Oh, serf-boy, you may bring thy master, his liverwurst now. And you may pet me once, lightly, for my amusement."
But intimacy and affection are apparently not permitted.
And I am sure the cat's spies are getting this information to him as quickly as possible, so that he can make some artificial loving gesture, delude me once more into thinking he cares, while deep within he arrogantly mocks the paltry nothingness of my existence.
O Woe!

Re: Cats
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 8:50 AMI like white chocolate.
An awesome chocolate place is Fog City News in San Francisco at Market and 1st. They stock over 80 bars from around the world and have tastings as well as a free frequent buyers club.
Q: Why do we take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha?
A: Because sex, chocolate and alcohol turned out to be impermanent.

Dreams
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 7:03 AMHad a crazy dream!
I was a fugitive with one other person and we were being helped across the border by a couple of Arab terrorists. And this is the best part - somehow, Post-It notes were involved!
I love it! Post-Its and Terrorists!
Maybe it is some subconscious trauma from working all those years in offices! -

Cat Blog II
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 4:52 AMMy mother has a cat. When she gets a cat, the first thing she does is convert them to Judaism. This has been going on a long time. "George the Cat" became "Shloymie the Cat." The latest cat, had a very cool and hip name, "Captain Mortimer." Does it get better for a cat than that? I thought that was a pretty cool name. He has now been converted. His Jewish name is Mordecai. My mother relented a bit, she calls him "Mordie."
Mordie is a big loving ball of fluff. He loves to roll on the floor when he sees you, follows you around and is so friendly in every way.
Of course, like any respectable cat, he hates to be kissed and the whole evil scheme is just to suck you in so that he can obtain "cat gold" - otherwise known as liverwurst.
So, what is the news with my loving oopsy whoopsy pumpkin umpkin lovie dovie Mordie?
The widdle iddle wovey dovey just tried to murder a dog!!!!
Yup, Mordie spied a little lap dog, and made a beeline to off the little guy.
You can imagine the scene...cat after dog, dog after shelter, 80 year old crazy Jewish lady screaming at the top of her lungs....
Mordie is apparently a member of the Russian Mob, a spy, a secret weapon,....a Hit Cat.
